Back from Chicago
My last view of downtown Chicago.
I'm just back from Chicago - at last! - about 36 hours, 5 flight reservations, as many cancellations and a pair of totally clogged ears later - arrrgh!
My book did not win the IACP award in the Baking and Desserts category, but a book that looks interesting did: Bread Matters, by Andrew Whitley, which talks about the state of bread in England and includes recipes. It's a British book, not available here yet, but maybe gettable soon.
Sure it would have been great to win and sure it's a cliche to say that winning isn't everything, that it's an honor to be nominated, but you know what? It really is an honor to be nominated by your peers and it really is pretty swell to be surrounded by friends and colleagues who are rooting for you.
Many, many thanks to everyone who crossed their fingers for me. Do you think you could continue to keep them crossed until the Beard Awards roll around?

Well at least you know you are a winner with all of us. If you check my blog you will notice that you have more books in my favorites list than anyone else! Good luck with the Beard Awards...

Well, I am glad you made it back in one piece! Or at least made it back. Have a good steam and take to the bed. See you in NYC?

Helen, I'd love to have you along "on the road", and you really wouldn't have to do all those jobs you listed -- my hair's so short that I don't even travel with a hairbrush, let alone a hair-brushing assistant! :)

So sorry you did not win this one. Good luck with the Beard Awards!
I was looking at your "on the road" calendar...oh how I wish I could be your French trainer- pastry assistant- translator- coffee getting- shoe tying-hair brushing....assistant!

I'll have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed hoping you win the Beard! (Though I may have to uncross things occassionally so that I can make it classes OK, you understand.)
;) Good luck!

Thank you, thank you! The Beard Awards are Monday night, May 7th. You'll get horrible cramps keeping everything crossed until then, so if you could just start crossing say the night before, I'd be sooooooo grateful!

Fingers crossed for you and your great book. When are the Beard Awards?
Good Luck

Dorie, what a disappointment! I was rooting hard for you from afar. But award or not, I hope you know that this spectacular book is a winner to many, many people, myself included. And my fingers will most certainly stay crossed until the Beard awards (in May, right?)!

Fingers and toes crossed. You deserve the Beard!

Dorie, sorry to hear you didn't win. It is amazing, nonetheless, to have your peers consider your book one of the best in its field. Consider my fingers still crossed for the Beard Awards.
