Heads Up New Yorkers: A Good Program at NYU

I just got the info on this program and want to pass it along because I know it's important and I think, knowing two of the speakers, it will also be very, very interesting.  Here are the basics: The Farm Bill 2007:  Understanding the Political, Agricultural and Nutritional Impact OR Understanding That What You Pay For an Apple or a Twinkie Can Affect Public Health

The speakers are: Marion Nestle, Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies and Public Health at New York University and the author of Food Politics and What to Eat, Dan Barber, chef of Blue Hill and Stone Barns at Blue Hill (these are the panelists I know and they're both terrific speakers), and Christina Grace, manager of Urban Food System Programs at the NY State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

This post has virtually nothing to do with the upcoming seminar at NYU(other than to say - if my pharmaceutical consulting dates were even remotely contiguous, I'd be there in flash). Now, to the real purpose of writing -
this afternoon I chose the most beautifully ripened one and a half lemons from my tree (that was a feat), plucked them, scrubbed them, and used them to construct your joint-venture recipe for something akin to lemon meringue pie sans meringue. The crust evolved beautifully (my first with almonds) and so did the filling. The color is nothing else if not sensational and definitely ought to be in a decorator's palette. The texture was consistent with your description, however, the taste was something else. You used the word 'pucker' to describe one's experience when tasting the finished product - I believe, quite conservatively, that a word or words such as, oral explosion, transcendent, not of this world, might be more descriptively apt. I've never tasted anything quite like it in all my many years of tasting and here I am three hours post tasting and still puckered while mysteriously craving another 'hit'. Thanks for the taste sensation (a cautionary note really ought to be placed beside the recipe, such as, *not for the faint of heart or very tart tart or... :).

Danielle, it's great that you posted the event. I, too, am trying to shuffle my schedule around (it will be my first day back in New York) and, if I do, I'll be happy to see you there.

That sounds wonderful! I'm not sure I can make it, but I'll try to rejigger my schedule somehow to make it work. And in the meantime, I've passed the info on to the NYC food bloggers mailing list.
