TWD: Apple Cheddar Scones

Apple cheddar scones 1 This week my friends at Tuesdays with Dorie baked Apple Cheddar Scones from Baking From My Home to Yours.

If you want to see how they've done -- and how differently the same recipe can be presented (I always find this interesting) -- go to the TWD blogroll

There are now over 200 TWD bakers -- bravo to Laurie of Quirky Cupcake who came up with the idea, started the group and maintains the site -- and three cheers for all the bakers!

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see so many people baking every week.  And the most exciting part is that many of the group's members are new bakers just learning their way around the kitchen.  I love this.

These days, when people tell me they have no time to bake, or that it's rare to see anyone making sweets at home, I just tell them to take a look at the members of TWD.

My favorite thing about your book? Absolutely favorite thing is that your recipes turn out wonderful the very first time...I have had success with every single one the very first time I tried it. Have never been able to say that about any cookbook so far...only yours. Thanks for a very successful endeavor, both yours and mine! Keep writing!

Hello! I am a member of TWD and have LOVED baking through your book. Even the things that I knew I wouldn't really like I have loved making. This week as you may know we are all making the Cherry Rhubarb Cobbler - and I had never cooked wither one - but this was amazing!! I also made it again with a Blueberry and Blackberry filling with some lemon zest - YUM. That topping is pure genius.
However, the reason I am bothering you is that tonight I made your Whopper Cookies. My husband doesn't really like cookies - but we cannot say enough fantastic things about this recipe!! I just wanted you to know how great we think they are, and that I will be sending a huge batch of them this week to Iraq where I have a special relative in the Army. he's been watching my posts and is very eager for me to send him something yummy!! These are sure to win him some points with his commanding officer!!
Thanks again, I hope someday my blogging will do your recipes a bit of justice!

Thanks for the blog visit and comment. The chocolate pudding is my favorite so far with TWD! Good thing it was my pick! I'm now off to make it a 3rd time. I've done it once with bittersweet, once with semisweet, and now I'm going to try milk chocolate. I don't think I can go wrong with ANY of them!

I love TWD, and I love your cookbook :) I've had so many firsts since joining the group - my first brioche, pastry cream, pate a choux, pie crust, buttercream, pudding, scones, and now baking with rhubarb! I've learned so much from you - and that I CAN like buttercream (not all are created equal!) Oh, and I hate pecans but LOVED your pecan honey sticky buns. I could go on and on, really...

I'll be honest that it's probably not good for my waist (my mom commented on how much butter your recipes contain! LOL), but my baking skills have grown tremendously and your book is one of my go-to books now.

I actually used cooked apples (like the ones in your brown sugar apple cheesecake) in this recipe and loved them! My only complaint was that there was not enough apple in them... so I'll throw in some more next time.

Dorie, I have to say that joining TWD has done wonders for me. I never considered myself a baker, as I confess openly in my first TWD. My first TWD happened to be these wonderful scones followed by the incredible blueberry pie. Both were delicious and a joy to make, and I look forward to the weeks ahead!

Many thanks for your delightful cookbook!

Colleen

Dorie, I hope you have had a chance to look over the comments on the TWD Blueberry Double-Crust Pie. There were a lot of bakers saying that they had just had their first success with home-made pie crust. Apparently there's a lot of "fear of pie crust" out there and you have just helped to get rid of some of it. Congratulations!

since joining TWD, your book is never on my bookshelf. it's always open and out on the couch or the kitchen table. i poke thru it while my husband watched sports on TV, i've taken notes on the recipes we've tried, and there are ones that i cross my fingers someone will choose...the book is like a friend!

these apple cheddar scones were a big hit here...so glad i made them! thank you!

I sure love cooking out of your book, Dorie! Like someone else said, everyone around me asks what the "Dorie treat" is for the week and can't wait! Thanks again-

Love it. I worked a bakery counter in high school, and the cheddar scones were the only things I never got sick of. I kept requesting them anonymously on customer comment cards just to keep them coming.

It's a thrill to know that you've been keeping up to date with our baking endeavors! Thank you for your enthusiasm and encouragement, as it does mean a lot to the group.

Because of the great bakers at TWD and your wonderful book, I have made baking a weekly (sometimes twice or thrice weekly)activity, and this ritual has become "my" time to relax and enjoy.

Hi Dorie.

I have never had apples and cheddar before this. This was my first time with TWD, and I have to say that they were wonderful.

Didn't look a. thing. like yours, but they were fabulous.

My son made your sticky buns this morning. He said over breakfast "I love Dorie's book. She isn't uppity, and writes to the reader, not like she is someone full of herself."

I would have to agree.

PS. The brioche was wonderful.

Thanks for giving us such a great baking book, and being so supportive and encouraging! I am a novice baker, and I think I'm learning so much from being a part of TWD.
This week's apple cheddar scones we amazing!

It is great that TWD has gotten people baking...and trying things they never would have though they would have done. That just goes to show how great your book is...where begining bakers and more experienced ones can enjoy it equally.

Okay, so I used apricots, not apples. And Swiss, not cheddar. But these were still some of the best scones I've ever had. And you can bet I'll revisit this recipe and make them "your way". :)

I think I need Alan to come to my house. My stuff tastes wonderful, but my photos lack a little certain something. Perhaps a talented photographer?

I can't go a week without baking something from Baking From My Home to Yours. There are so many great recipes to try. And after trying them once they become favorites so the baking never ends! Everything is too tasty! We just made your lemon cream tarts...again, except thist time we did lime. We put lime zest in the sweet tart dough too. They were fabulous with a raspberry on top! Our dinner guests were in heaven!! Thanks Dorie!

Hi Dorie! Your scone recipe is so delicious. I also used fresh apples because I couldn't find any dried apples. I'm loving being part of TWD I'm also really enjoying your brilliant book :)

Thought I'd tell you of my baking this past week, all from Baking from My Home to Yours! I made our old favourite, World Peace cookies, not for the first time and not the last I hasten to add! Then I made the Perfection Pound Cake with added vanilla, it was perfection! as I was on such a good baking roll I then madethe Grainiest muffins, another big success, and then because I've heard such glowing reports of them i made the Apple Spice bars. The cake part turned out perfectly but I think, in fact I know, I overcooked the frosting and it turned to a toffee, a bit too stiff to spread over the base. I'll know better for next time. My son was visiting for the weekend and as usual I like to send him away with some goodies, he specifically asked for some of those apple thingies,. In his words"They were really nice". My DIL , my other son's wife also asked for the recipe for the WPcookies and is going to buy American cup measures especially so that she can make them!!I think I know what to buy her for next Christmas, your book!

Dorie, mine weren't as pretty as the ones in the picture, but they were absolutely outstanding. My husband took one bite and asked me to put them on the "repeat list." Thanks again for a fantastic book.

Alan's photos are fabulousness, why don't my cheddar scones with coffee look like that? ;)

TWD is pretty fab..! As is the book we bake from..!

Hi Dorie! It's so exciting when you talk about TWD on your blog...thank you for being so supportive and leaving such helpful, encouraging comments on our blogs and keeping up with our weekly adventures! (I really enjoyed these scones, by the way!) :-)

Dorie:
The whole family (plus neighbors) looks forward to Tuesdays, knowing full well that I'll be sharing some stellar treats. I've had a wonderful time baking, sharing, and stretching my kitchen skills. Your book is just lovely-I even took it to the pool to read yesterday. All the other ladies have their gossip magazines, and I've got my nose stuck in "Baking: From My Home to Yours." Thanks for elevating the art of home baking!

Thanks for the kind words Dorie. My scones are in the oven now. I did not have any dried apple. So, I used a fresh apple, grated it and squeezed the juice out with a towel. Hopefully they will turn out okay. :)
